View Full Version : I can haz new car?

TTaM

Lately, I have been struggling with the idea of stimulating the economy and buying a new car. Well actually, it would be more of a new to me car. I've owned my TT almost 4 years now, and maybe it is time for me to move onto something new. I stress the maybe...

Since I'm terrible at making decisions, I figured I'd open this up to the opinion of the the internets

(Note this is in off topic since not every option is Euro)

TTaM

FYI, this would be a toy car, I have a daily driver so practicality means nothing to me.

Cayman S or Z06. The Lotus would be fun but the other two are much more livable, even as fun summer cars.

Don't buy anything with more than two doors as a fun car.

Why don't you just have some fun and mod the TT?

Maybe set it up for AutoX if you have a desire to try that.

If you REALLY want to switch cars and you want a change of pace, I would go Lotus, or why not consider a new car and go for one of those new Challengers. Those things look badass and they can't be much more than some of these used cars you are considering.

The TT is somewhat modded, and I do autocross it. The problem is that it is actually over modded for autox and I am outclassed for my ability.

I don't like the Challenger. I don't know why, it just isn't aestheticly pleasing to me. I'd rather have a Mustang or Camaro

I'll never be content with the TT, but then again I know I'd probably never be content with any of the cars on my list. I'll also be retiring at some point in my life. Putting money into a depreciating asset, especially when it is not needed, is foolish. I know this.

There are a great many number of days that I regret not buying that 996TT and instead buying a house.

Unless a ridiculous deal falls into my lap, I am not ready to commit to Minnesota with home ownership. The good deals seem to have disappeared now. The chances of getting transferred again in the next 4 years are too great

Not really. At the autocross there were plenty of Caymans. Not only were my times comparable, but a few were having reliability issues.

Same goes for the Elise. There was an Exige there, and in talking with the owner, he has had all kinds of issues. The engine and trans are fine, but everything else needs to be watched closely. For example, in the middle of the course, his seat track broke, and he would go all the way back on acceleration.

I found a smoking deal on an MK2 TT. 1 owner, S-Line 3.2, loaded, RARE color (1 of 2 in the US), TX car, less than 15K miles. The only other 3.2 TT listed for sale within 500 miles of here is more money and has 45K miles.

I feel like the novelty of a yellow car would wear off real quick-like, even if it is super rare.

I am kind of afraid of this. If it was Suzuka Gray or even white, it would probably be a done deal.

Great looking car.

As if Matt would buy a silly automatic. He's a transmission snob.

The new Cayman S is a VERY nice car. Definitely the best all around in its category.

After sleeping on it, I'm less enthusiastic about the new one. I think yellow would wear on me quickly, and there really isn't that great of a difference in performance to justify the additional costs.

Yeah for the price you probably wouldn't be happy with the changes. That would be like me getting a MK5 GTI, I would enjoy it at first but the changes wouldn't be drastic enough for me to really feel like I was owning a whole new car.

Its hilarious that exactly 1 year from the original posting of this thread that I am still searching, and think I might have found the one (though I seem to say this every other week)

I found a smoking deal on an MK2 TT. 1 owner, S-Line 3.2, loaded, RARE color (1 of 2 in the US), TX car, less than 15K miles. The only other 3.2 TT listed for sale within 500 miles of here is more money and has 45K miles.

Opinions? (Picture of actual car for sale)

I like it! you could re-use your wheels too, and earn that recycling sticker!

you can do amazing things with that 3.2 liter too...

Probably wise.

But if you ask people like me...I know I'll always say 'buy' if the thing in question is cool.

Where is that BT you were going to buy?
