Ok, I\'m a complete newb when it comes to forced induction and it looks like my next car will be a 2001 cool white jetta 1.8t (moms). Right now it has a CAI and forge 007. I\'m wondering what the alternatives are to chipping (mbc, and whatever else is needed). I\'m curious about building my own MBC. I\'m also wondering if the car will only boost under load, what I mean is, turbo doesn\'t spool while not in gear and moving. Just some basic questions, thanks!

That\'s the plan for tomorrow actually. But I\'m wondering what my options are besides that. I know there\'s a kid around here with a silver jetta running an MBC and I\'m curious.

thats completely seperate from chipping it. It kinda goes hand in hand though... Chad can tell you everything you need to know I bet. I dont know 1.8T\'s well myself.

i would say go revo and a mbc and unplug the n75 vacuum lines but leave it in the ecu. It will stop the surging.

I hear thee are people that run a MBC and a FPR to make up for the extra air, but that\'s just too much hassle for me to play with, I\'d just chip it. Also I can hit 10psi of boost in neutral:whistle: ;)

On a 1.8T I wouldn\'t run an MBC w/out a chip. A 4bar FPR will give you too much fuel and the ECU won\'t know it\'s there, the mix will be nonoptimal.
I would chip it and do like Space suggested, put the MBC in place of the N75. I had mixed results with this setup on my Golf. In the end I left the n75 in place, I think I had an n75-J, with no MBC. With the MBC I could get the boost as high as I wanted (25psi spike for instance) but your optimal boost spike is 20psi, hold 18, for the most power. Anything above 18 is hot air on the K03s really.

Oh, and for the record, I have no fuckin clue what I\'m talking about. I just grabbed some words off the MK4 forum I thought would make me sound cool. Shit I don\'t even own a 1.8T.

haha what a liar...you only had one for a long time you silly billy.
i say the easiest and most hassle free approach would be to chip it. easiest bang for the buck. and you dont have to crawl under the car for anything, just watch the program be loaded into your ECU for a short while. haha

Yes chipping is the best place to start. You get a good power increase that is also safe for your system. I\'d only start mucking with MBCs and other stuff if you crave more power, or are stupid, or both. I was both.
That was sort of an old joke between me and Strider, the me not knowing anything about them.

yes once you start messing around with a mbc its going to take some time and trial and error until you get it right. gotta pay to play but it is worth it in the end
