Background- 2001 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro auto. I looking into picking up an A4 from my work, a local stealership, and was wondering what i should look out for or if there was anyone that i could take the car to to check it out before i bought it. The car is in near perfect shape, with only 40k on the clock. Anyone got any insight....?

B5s had a host of little issues - check to see how the myriad of control arms are looking and make sure the oil changes have been done on schedule, as sludging was an issue in the B5 1.8ts.
40k though - who drove this thing? lol

as far as PPIs, I\'m not sure who is the best place for audis, maybe anderson motorsport?

that sounds like a pretty nice A4 - wow only 40k.
I\'m pretty sure the only B5\'s that had the control arm problem were >99\'s. Does it have the 170hp 1.8T? I know the 2001.5\'s have them - not sure on the 2001\'s. Sounds like a pretty good deal though - you wont have to worry about a timing belt changed for at least another 20k miles also.

im not sure about the engine but i took it for a test drive and it could move alright. i think it will be perfect for the winter and due to the fact that its auto i doubt i\'ll be trying to modify the engine in any way which is good because i can\'t control myself in that department haha

I think 2001\'s had the coil pack problems and possible turbo failures? But that could be only S4\'s that had the turbo failures and Im sure all the coil packs on every vw/audi had the issues. Check to see if they were replaced.
