No time or drive to work on the rabbit when it's balls cold out.... IT depresses the shit out of me that the car isn't done.

Damn jack frost and his cold ass weather. :uberbarf:

Yeah, I was both cars this week... it was the first time in a long time - too long.

The shitty thing is, when it is warm enough to wash them so that things don't freeze, all the stuff on the road is melting, making it more messy out there.

The super cold is what's really depressing...I don't have money to do stuff with my cars, but at least when it's 25*f, I can go tear them apart or fix stuff that I already have parts.

I think mid-march I'm going to put insurance on my rabbit. I don't care if snow is around...if the roads are clear, I'll drive it.

I went out to my storage to check on my GTI last week.

I couldn't even open the garage door, it was ice'd shut.

It is so cold, I don't even want to go out to finish hooking up my garage heater. Blah. At least my car is done and running well. Though I do feel bad about driving it in the salt and such.

I am and I'm not.
I'm getting sick of the cold, and lack of fresh air in the house, shop, etc.
But I'm getting excited to be able to button up my Mk2VR so I can drive it.

Definitely feeling the lack of motivation due to winter...

I feel guilty not getting in to keep working on the coupe. It's just not pleasant working when its cold out, even though I'm lucky to work on it in a heated garage.

i was but with the recent purchase i'm renewed. but, yea i'm broke and even an enclosed garage with a diesel heater really isn't fun when it's 4* out.

soon it will be in the 20s and it'll be time to get working again.

I am there too. The salt on the floor in my truck is driving me nuts. I am even 300 or so miles overdue for an oil change and to the point where I think I might just have it done. (second time in 7 years) I did it last year and I just worry a lot about somepone else doing it. What I really have been lacking motivation on and dying to take out is my bike. I need new brake pads, chain and sprocket(+2) flush all fluids, tps adjustment, valve shim one valve that's out of spec, airbox mod, paint and mount the chin spoiler, and powdercoat the wheels. Its a long way from where I want it in April. :(:(

I've been working on stuff like crazy lately. I guess it helps that my dad has a large building with floor heat, ventilation, drainage, a bathroom, and all the tools I could need for any job I'd tackle. I don't live at home anymore, but it's worth the 45 min. drive up there to get a lot accomplished. That garage is one of the main reasons I miss living at home.

Lately, I've changed all drivetrain fluids in my truck, as well as replaced the fender, grille, header panel, bumper, etc. on a Jeep Cherokee I picked up for nothing. This coming week I will be rotating the tires and doing and oil change and chassis lube on my truck, and switching tires and wheels and putting an exhaust on my Jeep.

Naw, I'd say I've actually picked up the pace of working on stuff. Once next week's projects are complete, I'm going to start the engine swap on my older Dakota. Busy winter for me :D.

And I want to drive My M3. Badly.

I found a nice subtle dent and scratches where somebody hit my drivers door. Then I found a nice deep scratch on my passenger fender. I didn't know about this until recently because the car was covered in salt.

F the cold, F the people who did that stuff to my car and F not having a winter car

i just said f*** it till the spring. it pisses me off cuz my car looks like a salty trash can. plus the the fact my mom backed into my car and dented the rear door. i cant stand the cold anymore. I could spend the money on a car wash at a local gas station but once i get home it will be dirty again and i wont be able to get out of the car cuz my doors will be frozen shut. sometimes i wonder why i still live in MN. i just want to go curl up in my bed and sleep until all the snow disappears. o well.... :headsmash:

The Kerosene torpedo heaters (~50k BTU works well) is around $160 new, or search CL like I did and find one for $50-$100. They pretty much either work or they don't so it's easy to see condition.

They work better than you think - especially if you have the heater directed at you.

01-27-2009, 08:10 AM
I have a 200k BTU propane portable heater. It was like $120 and hooks right up to a normal propane tank (think of the type for a BBQ grill). It heats an uninsulated 2.5 car garage reasonably well. Even when it was -15 out, I got the garage up to about 50 and went through about 3/4 of one tank for about 7 hours of use. I used it all last year to do the R32 swap. The downside is that it creates a LOT of moisture in the air. It is cheap, small, clean, portable. And I will probably be selling mine later this year or next year for sure.

Haha... you have insulation in your garage? What's that? :)

I have tools as insulation... which doesn't do much.

Ditto. It does not help a lot! Over the summer I will insulate the ceiling, possibly one of the walls too.

And yeah. I have hit the "winter wall" so to speak. My 9000 could use a new clutch (again...cooked this one racing an M5), and probably a hone and new rings on the motor too. I think I'll wait at least a month before doing any work on it though.

I have hit the wall, but this saturday might be the day I can put new brakes on since it will be mid 30's. I have an attached garage, not directly heated, but insulated so should be good enough.

Every year its pretty much the same. Can't seem to find energy when I leave for work and its dark out and come home and its dark out.
But then again it does make me appreciate summers and the warm weather that much more.

I'm not so tired of winter as I am of...the cold. If it's going to be -21....F-ing snow ffs. Am I right?

It's been getting me down too though.....mostly because I haven't really been able to avoid doing the maintenance on the 240 (Volvo). I keep having to buy my buddy 12 packs of beer to use his garage and air compressor, lol. The up side is that I typically drink 8 of them for him.....win win I guess.
