I am so stoked for the upcoming season to start. I don't watch the practice or qualifying but I do watch every race.
2009
Big mistake by McLaren/MB to let Ron Dennis step down.
BMW should have an even stronger team this year.
Flavio should shut his mouth.
Kimi in 2009?
Here's where I get my F1 news from. Any other sites F1 fans recommend?

Speed Channel. I have the HR21 DirecTV HD Recorder box so I get it all in HD and record those pesky 6AM start times so I can watch at noon instead.

I gave up trying to keep up on euro racing after speed killed off wrc coverage...you win nascar.
I used to follow f1 with my dad when I was younger. Maybe this year I can get back into it since my father in law is obsessed with all types of car racing
I can't wait to download the BBC's coverage of F-1 this year, even though Bob Varsha rules, NO COMMERCIALS!

The past two years Majors in Golden Valley puts it up on the big screen. Doug J. (aka Strider) arranges them. Also Masserati (sp) also hosts viewing parties.

I go to www.itv-f1.com (http://www.itv-f1.com) for my updates. Used to be hugely involved in following F1, but have only loosely paid attention the last couple of years. I think this year with the new car regulations and all the other shake-ups I might have to start paying more attention.
I wonder if they're is some sort of low maintenance F1 fantasy kind of deal online that we could participate in. There used to be something on the ITV website, but they aren't showing anything for 2009. I know it would give me more reason to make sure the dvr is set.

I've been a Formula 1 fan since I was a little kid.
Unfortunately the future doesn't look good... spec engines coming in a few years. Berny needs to GO.
This year will definitely be interesting and I'm looking forward to it! I enjoy watching the younger guys like Kimi and Lewis succeed. This year will definitely be another shoot out!

Yahoo has one on the link I posted above.
I don't know the details and have not tried it but, I may just sign up for the 09 season to check it out.

Sebastian Vettel covers some of the rule changes for the 2009 F1 Season. Should be very interesting this year.

I think it's awesome. They kept the rules vague enough to allow innovation. It's not like the rule they wanted to enact that required all cars run the same motor, now that would have been lame enough to keep me from ever watching again.

I think we will see some serious innovation around the technology.
The adjustable front spoiler is also cool.

The thing I'm worried about with KERS is teams like ferrari, merc, toyota, and maybe BMW will have advanced systems, and put it to good use, but what about the lower budget teams like force india, red bull ect ect?
I believe BMW, and Toyota will do fantastic this year. I am also excited to see Vettel do well. Isnt he in the eye of Ferrari to some extent as a future driver?

Definitely excited! Not a big fan of how the new cars look, but oh well. Hopefully I'll get used to it.
Anyone doing fantasy F1? Yeah, sounds kinda dorky but its easy and you only have to check before and after a race to see how your doing.
Here's the site: www.f1manager.info (http://www.f1manager.info)
I'm already on it with a group from Motorgeek. Anyone from Eurowerks interested? We could definitely start our own group... doesn't really matter if you miss a race either, its very easy to catch up.

John, I'm totally interested in that.
Brawn GP FTW! Sweep of front row in qualifying. I'm also going to give a big shoutout to my boy Vettel in his new Red Bull ride. Holla.

Just got home and am checking out the race. I missed the start, and haven't really seen anything of any significance. I do have to say the new aero package looks pretty odd. The rear wing is tiny and super tall and the front is the opposite. Its definitely not pretty, but if it makes the racing better I can live with it.
magilson

those front wings just make the race frustrating. You could play a drinking game for every time one gets broken now. These new cars are going to take getting used to...

No joke. Seriously. Those guys must be so amped up in those cars. They replayed the radio and kept telling him, essentially, to knock it off. Who knows.

I thought I read this morning that Vettel was actually punished for the incident. I personally thought the attempt to ride it out on three wheels was hilarious. It almost appeared to me that Vettels crash following the incident was due to him trying to avoid a piece of debris from Kubica's car. What was his response over the radio, "I'm so stupid" or something to that affect.

Malaysia was a great race to watch, up until the rain. What a season starter this year with Brawn GP doing it again. My boy Nick Heidfeld finally made it too!

Yeah, I was definitely glad I watched the race on the DVR, though I still ended up watching a fair amount of the stopped race before they finally called it a day.
It was an entertaining race, even when it was dry at the beginning the racing was still entertaining, and then once the rain hit and all hell broke loose it was even more entertaining. One of the reports I read about the race afterwards talked about how bad the conditions were at the end, and it quoted one of the drivers as being told by his team to keep an eye on the safety car's speed and to not exceed it, the driver responded with something like, "that won't be a problem, right now the safety car is beating us by 20 mph"
So Mclaren couldn't even make it one race into the season without picking up a penalty and a suspension huh? Sending Hamilton into the marshalls to lie for them? What were they thinking??
I do like Eccelstone's comments about the Vettel incident from Australia, and saying something to the effect that these guys are racing, so let them race....and that there shouldn't have been a penalty for the incident.

I kept waiting for the rain to create a scene like we saw in Brazil a few years back when a huge wreck in the rain on the front straight brought out the red flag.

Chinese GP was a rain soaked day! It was fun to watch for a bit, then I got to wishing for better weather so the cars could run all out. How about Vettel/Webber and Red Bull Racing taking 1-2.

Anybody know the backstory behind Renault petitioning the FIA regarding their engines being slower than the other teams at the end of the last season? I thought I heard something about it mentioned on today's race.

I don't recall reading anything like that, sounds strange to me. Engine freeze must be giving them problems.

The accident involving one of the toyotas could have been really bad! The way they showed the replay was hilarious, with the first replay being from the toyota's in car camera showing a slight bump from behind, and the next replay from outside the cars showing a car literally on top of the toyota!

to the best of my memory, here goes.
At the time of the engine freeze, the revs were not capped and Renault was making their max power above 19K rpms. when the revs were capped at 19k last year, they were making the least power on the grid, and it was their customer team, RedBull F-1 that was proving this by being slower than their "junior" team STR, which had the exact same car, except for the Ferrari power plant. with the rev cap dropping to 18K the FIA allowed Renault to redesign their top-end to work with the lower cap.
so there ya go,

Crazy season is the understatement of the year. Ferrari showed well in Bahrain last year and this season they are just a joke so far.
It sure is nice to see new faces on the podium.

From Autosport.com:
The Formula One Teams' Association announced on Thursday night that it is setting up a breakaway championship.
Following a four hour meeting at Renault's Enstone factory, the eight members of FOTA - Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, BMW Sauber, Toyota, Brawn, Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso - said they had grown frustrated with the FIA's stance against the organisation, and had no option but to create a series of their own.
