my buddy just got a 97 Volvo 850R a few weeks ago.. im just wondering if you can crank the waste gate like alot of people do on 1.8t's to get more/hold more boost.. and would it matter if the wastegate is internal or external?
thanks.

Talk to Tristan at Further. He's had some experience there.

Why not just put a MBC in?

Hell yeah, 850R's are awesome.

I don't know the answer since my 850 was just NA but I'm sure you can find it at: http://volvospeed.com

But I'm pretty sure you would just want to get some new software.

You won't really accomplish anything with an intake, stock 850 intakes are actually very good.

But some good gains can be made from a full 3" exhaust, and if I recall correctly most Volvo guys run a BOV, I don't even know if they make an upgraded DV for them.

yeah the stock airbox is in a very good position... but open filter gives it a better sound.. we've already put a Diverter valve on and routed that shit... three inch exhaust is in the plan for next month just gotta find a downpipe.. i should have him join up haha its a tight car he got it for 6k 55k on it white with wheels very well taken care of

Nice work.

And I think I know what car you are talking about, does it have ASA JH8 wheels or similar?

Volvospeed is the place for 850 questions. Some knowledgeable people at turbobricks too but they are mostly into the older RWD cars.

You can turn the wastegate rod a little for a little more oomph. Try maybe a 3/4 turn to start. You shouldn't mess with it much though and you should probably have a boost gauge on.

You can run an MBC on that year too, but best is a retune.

OBX makes the least expensive exhaust system, but it's 3" dp and 2.5" catback. Really the dp is the biggest restrictive point and going to 3" catback is supposed to give minimal extra gain. You can get just the dp from them for about $150. People say it's pretty well made for the money. On ebay.

Get your friend on this board.

I've always wanted an 850 turbo/R but I hear it gets complicated getting past 300hp.

mostly do to the automatics transmission all the R came with in america... and well the turbo to obviously its gunna chokle out its not the bi ggest turbo... but 300whp is alot of power to say the least

The auto trans that came in all turbo 850s in America are pretty weak, but so are the rods. A lot of 850 tuners get nervous pushing stock internals towards 300 hp

OP, tell your buddy to get on Volvospeed ASAP

some of the same folks on swedepseed as volvospeed, but volvospeed is the place to be for modding 850's. the swedespeed people are more in to just maintenance. just my own observance.
