Maybe its my fault for leaving it in a snow covered parkinglot, maybe its my fault for not building a fence around it in MY parking stalls, maybe its my neighbors fault for hitting it.
I like my neighbors, for the most part. They are a bunch of guys who work on cars or dig ditches for a living, mostly cool dudes that are great to drink with and shoot the shit. Then they break something of yours that may be impossible to get back.
So I get a call last night around midnight-

hey stu, whats going on?'
me-'nothing much, just chillin drinking a beer'
'well, i had a little incident up here at the shop... i hit one of your cars with my truck'
me- 'where you whipping shittys in the lot?'
'no, well yeah, we were, but thats not how this happened'
me-'which one did you hit?'
'the mazda, its not too bad and I will for sure get whatever parts you need for it, you know, whatever I broke'

The car pictured is my Mazda 323gtx, probably one of the 200 left on the planet, next to it my 84 GTI, one of 250,000 left (i have a second one in the garage now). So im not pissed, just upset. Shit happens when youre having fun in the snow, hell Ive broken shit that wasnt mine and didnt have the balls to tell the owner so Im glad that they called me straight away and told me what happened.
it just sucks trying to find parts for it and now not only does it have electrical gremlins, but the parts of the body that were in good shape also now need to be replaced, hood fender grill, headlights surround, rad support and turn signal.

dammit.

That sucks.

What exactly were they doing, if they weren't whipping shitties and hit your car? It's not *that* tough to avoid other cars in a parking lot, if driving normally.

yea, crappy outcome but you're right, it's great you have the relationship with the dudes that he would feel comfortable enough to call and tell you about it.

i hadn't thought about the rarity of those two cars until you put it that way.

Looks like the Mazda was beat to begin with. Fix that rust now.

How much is it worth? Pardon the ignorance but whats the point in spending money on fixing it? I would work out a "you give me this much cash and we call it a day" deal.

*Did some research is it a turbo awd car? Kinda neat car....

Yeah, it's a rally car of sorts.

that rust spot is one of the goodones. The body has some eaten all the way through spots, fender lips and rear rockers are gonzo.

Have you tried looking for parts overseas? there are a lot of those in Australia but they were the Ford TX3 Turbo over there, also I know that the guy at metric that used to rally on was selling a while back the car has been siiting at the shop at the top of the High Bridge for all this last summer and part of the previous also I think.

yeah, ive checked out that gtx for years. i think its been sitting there for 3 years maybe?
I have talked to some people about it and i guess the rumor is that he wants to sell it, mostly, and the price always depends on what day you ask. Some times he wants $3k and other days he wants $1k. I have never talked to the guy personally as I know that once I do I may have to break out my checkbook and Im just not in a possition to have ANOTHER car around.
Although, my body is shit but the interior and engine are great and I do think his car has a really nice body (rebuild or not) and a full cage....

ahhh weak! GTX's really are few and far between these days. I'm pretty sure my old one is junked now even :(

The hood, fender and lights will be easy to source. The bumper will be tougher.

Like I mentioned when you were over at my place. Let me know if you want the info on the GTX at Metric. I spent countless hours working, towing, co-driving and even driving that car around the woods of the U.S. And the body is most beat, it has been a rally car its entire life. But the drivetrain is a screamer.

Still road legal, Ryan?

All rally cars have to be 100% road legal since transits are on open public roads.

It is of course still a race car and that means, race seats, 5 points, rollcage, stiff suspension so legal yes, daily drivable, no.

the problem with my gtx body is that it spent its whole life under the ownership of an asshole and every body piece needs major rust repair, most of the bosy isnt worht saving. and I think that metric gtx has very little rust. it may be banged up a bit but not rusty.
I am not in any place to take on another project. i wish i could but i have my truck and a gti all waiting in line to get back on the road and my gtx has been sitting for 3 years now, it doesnt take priority, sadly. I will for sure give you a call, ryan, if i plan on making a move to another gtx.
