I'm curious if anyone has seen like sport protective seats for animals or something of that nature to hold your dog in case of enthusiastic driving. If I have to get the gate that goes between the back seat and the cargo area I'm getting a shot gun mount for it as well.

I wouldn't, save the enthusiastic driving for when you're in the car by yourself.

There are harnesses for dogs, but it is more to keep them from becoming 55mph projectiles... not something that really harnesses them, more like tethers them.

I agree.
I do keep my dogs in a crate when they're in the car with me because it's the safest place for them to be, but I wouldn't do anything stupid with them in the car even when they're in a crate.

Hey...Rob...it was a serious question and I can't wait to :uberbarf::uberbarf::uberbarf::uberbarf: all over your face and make R32 noises...
I am more interested not in racing around town (I drive a Passat Wagon mind you) but more for the safety aspect of the animal if I would want him rydin shotgun.

Good luck trying to strap a dog in while you drive like that, he's probably gonna freak the hell out.

I feel like I'm gonna freak out..lol we are focused on assuming how I drive rather than my actual question. More or less looking for the safety aspects rather than racing around town. We all know sometimes you need to make a move in traffic that may be fine for you, but not your pet.

I guess I'm just speaking for my pup. He loves riding shot gun but I don't think he would be okay with being buckled in or restrained. I know they sell doggy seatbelts at Petco though!

I've actually thought about inventing one of these, I would make it clip into the cars seatbelt buckle, but one more point of attachment would me optimal, like the back seat. I was also thinking of the jumping out of the window aspect for owners with younger dogs that aren't fully trained/smart yet.

Exactly...and I think I found one for the back seat that I like...
I should just cage my car and build a little kennel into it...lol...hmmm

1) I didn't post in this thread, so what's this "can't believe you would rather" stuff?
2) At least that thread is humorous.

If I wanted this thread to be humorous I would have posted it in off topic...

My ex has one for her Dobe. It's called a Roadie and it works really well. I'll see if I can find a link.

you drive a wagon put your dog in the wayback and get a gate and a harness if you are really worried. I love my dog but he cant ride shotgun to many liabilities

seems pretty intense and seems to work pretty well for you 'non-intense' driving ;)
i keep my puppy in his little bag...not a fancy one but one for airports and stuff otherwise he's crawling around sitting on my lap while i'm driving trying to shove his head out the window...
(size reference: he's about 12 lbs - doxi mini poodle mix..with a mohawk)
